In fact, most of our oceans haven’t even been explored yet which is why when new depths are located; they often come with hundreds of new species. Rain forests offer up new animals and plants as often as we can explore them. The Earth is constantly changing, shifting, and exposing new secrets for humans to marvel at. It took many years and many great minds to solve the problem of getting through Earth’s atmosphere into the wide expanse of space beyond. Here are ten amazing facts about our home that you may not be aware of.

10. The Atmosphere

Earths-Atmosphere

Many layers of atmosphere coat our planet including the mesosphere, ionosphere, exosphere, and the thermosphere, but it’s the troposphere, closest to the planet itself, that supports our lives and is, in fact, the thinnest at only about 10 miles high.

9. Deserts

Desert

Believe it or not, most of the Earth’s deserts are not composed entirely of sand. Much, about 85% of them, are rocks and gravel. The largest, the Sahara, fills about 1/3 of Africa (and it is growing constantly) which would nearly fill the continental United States.

8. The Big Blue Marble

Oblate Spheroid

The Earth is, in fact, not really round. It is called an oblate spheroid meaning it’s slightly flattened on the top and bottom poles.

7. Salty Oceans

The Andes Mountain range in South America is 4,525 miles long and ranks, as the world’s longest. Second Longest: The Rockies; Third: Himalayas; Fourth: The Great Dividing Range in Australia; Fifth: Trans-Antarctic Mountains. For every 980 feet you climb up a mountain, the temperature drops 3-1/2 degrees.

4. Deep Water

Baikal

The deepest lake in the world is in the former USSR and it is Lake Baikal. It has a length of 400 miles, a width of roughly 30, but its depth is just over a mile: 5,371 feet down. It is deep enough, so is speculated, that all five of the next largest lakes: The Great Lakes could be emptied into it.

Earthquake

Earthquakes can be catastrophically destructive and many a year are deadly. However, the Earth releases about 1 million a year, almost all are never even registered.

1. Get more than one rate:

Don’t think that all the companies are issuing the policies on the same rates rather each company has its own terms and conditions and payment formula which can be negotiated to certain level. So it is always better that you shop around and look for different rates and go with a one which suits you the best. For this purpose, do some research work on the Internet and go well prepared.

2. Consider all the rates initially:

This is a common mistake done by the people that they don’t consider all the rates before making their minds which could lead them to severe consequences. So if you are planning to buy a vehicle, inquire about the insurance rates which the companies would give for that car.

3. Go with high deductibles:

Try to raise your deductibles in order to have lower premiums but still don’t raise the bar that much, as you would have to pay that amount later.

4. Look for the coverage rates on the older cars:

Figure out what your car costs and what you can pay for it as premiums keeping in mind all the circumstances. If the insurance companies are giving you with suitable insurance rates then you should go for it but if they aren’t then you should not buy expensive policies for your old car.

5. Keep a good look on your credit score:

This is the essential thing as it will determine your insurance rates so try and keep a good record of your credit score and don’t let the dealer or the insurance company to ask you for additional amount in case of bad credit rating.

6. Ask for any discount:

There are several discounts in offer but most of the people in the haste do not bother about that. You should ask the concerned authorities about the discounts and the ones in which you fall.

7. Inquire about low mileage discount:

In certain cases companies provide people with discounts who are not very common on the road and due to the hectic routine, they don’t have enough time to be on the road much.

8. Ask about Group insurance discounts:

If you are professional at work then you are somewhat entitled to group insurance discounts. If you are a doctor, engineer, banker, and teacher or belong to any other profession then you must look for the Group insurance discounts.

9. Don’t be negligent:

You should be fair to the company otherwise the sufferer would only be you. So pay your premiums on time and don’t let the company put you off from the policy.

10. Twice consider about paying in installments:

Paying in installments would definitely give you the luxury of paying a comparably small amount but in the long run you would end up paying more in that case.
